Rob and I are in the process of making the final decision to start building our dream home.
(was that confusing?)
After a very unsuccessful home search we decided building was probably the best option to get exactly what we wanted in our price range. So now we are looking into everything and trying to determine if that really is the best decision for our family.
Little did I know there would be so much to do before we could even start digging the hole.
I thought we would get approved, make an offer on a lot, have our house plans drawn up, and then build.
HAHAHAHA, if only it was that easy.
I made a stop into the bank today to see about financing, and left with a list of things to do before we could even start the loan process, most of which involve making some final decisions and getting permits in place.
This only adds to the list of things our contractor gave us to do, eek!!
If we decide to pull the trigger on this entire deal I will have to share our step by step process, maybe it will make it easy on someone else, because there is a lot of stuff to do and consider.
All I know is it will prove to be an adventure as we try and figure it all out.
Thankfully we have so many people who have given us a lot of tips and tricks. Some we have thought of, and others we probably never would have thought of.
I promised Rob I would enjoy the journey of getting there, and not get overly stressed out and be miserable, I really hope I can keep that promise. We will hopefully only build our dream house once and I want it to be a good experience for everyone.

I am so excited for you! Somehow we managed to get into a lovely house that would normally have been way out of our price range (it was a foreclousre, had a few crazy issues, etc) and I am super grateful for it, but I have admitted to my husband once in awhile that as happy as I am here, and as much as I never want to sound ungrateful, I would take a much simpler home if I could choose things just how I wanted -- a big laundry room with plenty of room to hang winter coats and set muddy boots, open space just where I wanted it, etc, etc. I think it would be intimidating and scary to try to get it just right, and I'd worry that maybe I wouldn't think of something I'd later wish I had, but it would be super exciting! Good luck! Hope it turns out perfect.
