The Yurt - 2015

Sunday, December 27, 2015

We had so much fun hiking into the yurt last we decided to stay two days this year, oh my!! We were better prepared in some ways, and not so prepared in others. I don't think any of us were prepared for the feet of snow that fell while we were there, when I think about it I am pretty sure it stopped snowing for maybe 30 minutes the entire time we were there. But we were prepared with better food and treats, lots of games, and a bunch of hot hands and feet (thanks Crystal).

We hiked into a yurt that was 1 1/2 miles in the first night and then up to a second yurt 2 miles in the second night.

The kids were amazing troopers!! We had a lot of ungroomed trails with all the snow and it made hiking with a pack and pulling sleds difficult, but they all kept going without much complaining. Samantha told me at one point she was thankful she wasn't a pioneer crossing the plains, and I was reminded they didn't have nice snow boots and snow pants to help keep them warm.

Come to think of it I am also thankful I was not a pioneer.

Despite the challenges from all the snow, it also brought a ton of fun. The kids, and adults, loved the awesome sledding at the first yurt, which then made the second yurt hill seem lame. But, we were all tired the second night so most of us didn't venture out to sled and instead stayed inside playing games.

We often talk about how the best family experiences have a good balance of challenge and fun all rolled into one. I am certain this trip was just that, and we are so thankful we have the Scrivners to share it all with!!

(P.S. there are A LOT of pictures)

Thanksgiving/Grandismas 2015

Sunday, November 29, 2015

We spent Thanksgiving week in St. George again this year, this is turning into our yearly tradition, and I think my Mom and I are getting this dinner down.  I was still a little tired and sore from having surgery so I was grateful to my Mom for doing most of it and dealing with me taking a lot of breaks and watching.

Dinner was so good, the weather was beautiful, and the company was great.

Friday started our Grandismas traditions. The kids made ornaments for Grandma's tree, played lots of games, we ate pizza for dinner and had fondue for dessert, Grandpa read the Polar Express, and the kids got to open jammies.

Saturday morning we woke up to a yummy breakfast and opened presents before heading off for family pictures (which will have to be its own post).

It was a crazy busy weekend full of love, laughter, and fun. We couldn't have asked for anything better.
