The Y

Friday I was startled awake by a very loud shriek, it was only 7:30 and my kids were already fighting with each other.  This has been happening more than I would like and I was done, so on the advice of my cousin Shelley I told them they had 5 minutes to have shorts and tennis shoes on and to load up in the car, we were going to hike the Y.  Shelley and I were talking after Harry Potter about our kids and I told her how frustrated I was they were fighting constantly, we don't have much space and it seems to cause more and more fights, she told me last summer he kids were doing the same thing and she would make them go running with her every morning and this summer they have been hiking.  I figured it was worth a shot.
The fighting continued until we pulled into the parking lot, the fighting switched to excitement and they couldn't wait to get out of the car and start up the trail .  It is a short hike but it has a bunch of steep switchbacks and I didn't know how far they (Hannah) would make it, but they were troopers and made it all the way to the top.

The rocks Hannah gathered along the way, she even named them all.

The view from up top, well the middle of the Y, we didn't take the last couple switchbacks to the top.

The trip back down was a lot quicker, Hunter and Samantha ran most of the way down, but the steep trail freaked Hannah out. She did really well though and I only had to carry her for one of the switchbacks, which I am now paying for with very sore hips.
We got back home and my kids cleaned their rooms without one complaint or argument.  Rob was working at home and suggested we hike it every morning, not going to happen, but I think we will at least try to hike once a week to try and keep the fighting to a minimum!!
