Conference Weekend
Wednesday, April 10, 2013
"Mom, can I tell you my favorite part about conference?"
Of course I was all ears, he had been so wiggly and talkative throughout each session of General Conference I didn't think he had heard much at all. I think the only time he sat still was when he fell asleep on Rob Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning when President Monson was telling his story about almost starting the mountain on fire. There is something about the way President Monson tells stories that keeps everyone captive.
"I really liked when the guy talked about not worrying about the future, like when I got really upset because I was worried you and Sammy and Dad would laugh at me if I lost at picking the basketball teams. But instead I should be happy and not worry about things like that."
I hugged him really tight and told him that was perfect. When he worries about things it only makes him unhappy, and Heavenly Father wants us to be happy, so instead we should be positive and look for the good in our lives.
He decided to make it his goal for the next 6 months, to stop worrying and instead be happy and positive.
I am still getting teary writing this, oh how I love that sweet boy of mine.
I always get so much out of each conference, and this time was no different, but when I decided to encourage my kids to watch all four sessions I did so hoping that they would also get something out of it.
It wasn't easy, but we did it, and I am so glad I didn't give up and send them outside or retreat to my bedroom to watch it alone in silence.
I only hope that I can instill in them the same love and excitement I have for General Conference weekend. We are truly blessed to be able to listen to living prophets and get counsel on specific challenges we face in our lives today.
General Conference Weekend
Tuesday, October 9, 2012
This weekend was LDS General Conference, it is one of my two favorite weekends of the year. On Saturday and Sunday we are able to be taught by living Apostles of the Lord and the messages are always uplifting and full of answers to my prayers. I love it!!
A few weeks ago for Family Home Evening we made a countdown to conference, we each colored pictures that had significance to conference. The printables came from The Red Headed Hostess, if you don't follow her already you should, she is always sharing great stuff!!Because of the baby shower on Saturday I didn't get to listen to many of the talks that day, but I plan on going back and listening to some of them, the rest I will wait until the Ensign comes out.
Sunday I was able to listen to both sessions and I walked away with courage to put my fears aside and trust in the Lord's plan for me, something that is not easy for me and I am constantly working on.
I am already looking forward to April and I have a few ideas in mind to help make it special for our family.
*We will be doing the countdown again!!
*I want to make conference journals for the kids to take notes in
(we did this for Stake conference and it helped them to pay attention)
*Have different bowls of candy that they can eat when certain words or subjects are talked about.
* Sunday morning cinnamon rolls
(we didn't do it this year because we were out of town)
My goal is for my kids to love conference weekend and appreciate all it has to offer in their lives..0
